Early Friday morning collision results in severe injuries

A two-vehicle collision that occurred on early Friday morning, May 2, resulted in severe injuries, according to multiple reports.

The collision occurred at 1:54 a.m. on N.C. Highway 12 between Avon and Buxton, and involved two drivers with no passengers. One of the drivers involved in the accident had to be transported to the Norfolk General Hospital by Dare County’s MedFlight, while the other was transported to the Outer Banks Hospital by Dare County EMS. The status of both drivers’ conditions is unknown as of Saturday morning, May 3.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department, Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, Dare County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol also responded to the accident.
