Feb. 17 rally in Dowdy Park to protest effort to reverse NC Supreme Court election

Common Cause and Concerned Citizens in Dare County are sponsoring a rally on Monday, Feb. 17, at 4:00 p.m. at Dowdy Park in Nags Head. The rally has been called to oppose efforts by Republican Jefferson Griffin, losing candidate for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court, to overturn the results of that election.
After several recounts and amid an ongoing legal battle, Democrat Allison Riggs maintains a 734-vote edge in the race. Part of Griffin’s strategy has been to have the votes of roughly 60,000 voted in that race discounted. The race is the last unresolved contest from last November’s election.
Here is the release about the rally in Nags Head.
Multiple recounts and thorough election audits have confirmed that Justice Allison Riggs received the most votes to retain her seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court. Despite this, losing candidate Jefferson Griffin refuses to concede and, instead, is demanding that the courts do the unthinkable—invalidate the ballots of 60,000 North Carolinians. Notably, young people and Black voters have been disproportionately targeted by Griffin’s challenges, as he makes a baseless and extreme attempt to overturn the results of the election.
In response, a nonpartisan coalition of concerned citizens will hold a rally on Monday, February 17, at 4:00 p.m. at Dowdy Park in Nags Head. The rally aims to publicly call on the NC Supreme Court to reject Griffin’s efforts to disenfranchise 60,000 voters and uphold the election’s integrity. The names of the 169 disenfranchised Dare County voters will be read.
Speakers at the rally will include individuals from Dare County whose votes have been challenged, standing united in defense of democracy and the principle that every vote should be counted.
