The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division will be adopting a temporary ‘phone only’ reservation system on Wednesday, as it transitions to a new enhanced online reservation system that is expected to be in place by early February.

During the transition period, all reservations for the Cedar Island-Ocracoke and Swan Quarter-Ocracoke ferry routes will be taken over the phone at 1-800-BY-FERRY or in person at the ferry terminal. All payments will be made upon arrival at the time of departure. As a reminder, reservations on those routes are accepted up to 90 days in advance.

All other routes in the ferry system will continue to operate without reservations.

When the upgraded reservation system is in place, it will deliver a more streamlined and user-friendly booking process that will enhance the overall experience for passengers.
