Heavy rainfall is expected early this week

A wet weather pattern is expected over the Outer Banks starting on Sunday, May 11, with 2-4 inches of rain forecast over the next several days, according to an update from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Up to 5 inches of rain may occur in some isolated regions, and flash flooding is possible along typically vulnerable areas of N.C. Highway 12.

The heaviest rains are expected Sunday night into Monday morning, and late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
