Heavy rains, flash flooding risk will continue into Wednesday

Share post:

Additional rounds of rainfall along the Outer Banks are expected through Wednesday, leading to a continued risk of flash flooding, according to an update from the National Weather Service (NWS).

The greatest risk of flash flooding is expected across the Eastern North Carolina coastal plain, the Crystal Coast, and the western Albemarle Sound vicinity.

On Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, a Flood Watch is in effect until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, and a high risk of rip currents is in effect for all Outer Banks beaches on Tuesday.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are also expected both Tuesday and Wednesday, some of which could be strong to severe with damaging winds, hail, and possibly a brief tornado.
