High risk of rip currents in effect for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands on Thursday
A high risk of rip currents is in effect for Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island on Thursday, August 5, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Rip currents remain a threat throughout Thursday for beachgoers on the southern Outer Banks. A high risk of rip currents means that the surf zone is dangerous for all levels of swimmers, and beachgoers should stay out of the water.
Rainy conditions will improve today, with morning low clouds and drizzle becoming mostly sunny by the afternoon. There is only a slight chance of a coastal shower or thunderstorm on Thursday, and highs will be in the low to mid-80s.
