While awaiting the result of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) report on the incident, his colleagues at the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department (RIVFD) and friends throughout the Outer Banks are remembering Steven R. “Bull” Bailey, the mechanic who was killed on Aug. 24 while working on the “Jug Handle Bridge” project in Rodanthe. Bailey had also worked on the Bonner Bridge replacement project.
Bailey leaves behind his wife Breynn and three children. A GoFundMe page that has been started to help his family —the “Bailey Family Relief Fund”— has already raised almost $12,000 to date. https://www.gofundme.com/f/99jgk-bailey-family-relief-fund
A funeral service will be scheduled for Monday with more details available soon.
