Strong winds, minor ocean overwash possible on Wednesday and Thursday

A strong cold front will move through the Outer Banks late Wednesday and Thursday, bringing high winds and the potential for ocean overwash, according to an update from the National Weather Service.
Hazardous seas could lead to minor beach erosion and localized ocean overwash for beaches that are vulnerable to southerly-southeasterly swell and winds, mainly south of Cape Hatteras.
Severe thunderstorms are possible, and winds outside of storms could be hazardous on their own. Southerly winds will strengthen throughout the day on Wednesday, with gusts up to 40 mph. A Wind Advisory may be issued.
Periods of heavy rains are also expected, and rainfall totals of one-half to one inch are forecast, with local higher amounts possible.
