Traffic delays possible in Hatteras Village this week due to transmission pole replacement

Drivers may experience brief traffic delays in Hatteras Village this week, as a transmission pole is scheduled to be replaced on the corner of N.C. Highway 12 and Eagle Pass Road, according to an update from Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC).

CHEC contractor River City Construction has been working for the past few months to replace a total of 60 transmission poles on Hatteras Island.
The project entails replacing 34 wood transmission poles on the Avon South circuit and 25 wood poles in Frisco and Hatteras with sturdier and more durable concrete poles.
In a corresponding project, North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation (NCEMC), in partnership with CHEC and ElectriCom Inc., are working to expand its cooperative fiber network by installing a new fiber line from Nags Head to Buxton.
The first phase of the fiber project began in the fall of 2024, and the venture includes fiber installation in the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton.
