U.S. Coast Guard assists disabled vessel near Hatteras Inlet
At 4:37 p.m. on Friday, October 15, the vessel Roe Boat with two people on board reported a hydraulic leak and loss of steering approximately 16 nautical miles southeast of Hatteras Inlet. Commercial salvage was unable to respond, and a Marine Assistance Request Broadcast was also made with no response.
At 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 15, the U.S. Coast Guard’s CG47308 Search and Rescue vessel got underway, and a crew from Station Hatteras Inlet arrived at the scene at 6:48 p.m. that evening.
After assessing conditions, CG47308 placed the Roe Boat in a stern tow, and began making its way back to Hatteras village. Roe Boat was safely moored in Teach’s Lair Marina at 9:23 p.m., and no injuries were reported during the incident.
