Visitors Bureau sets events for National Travel & Tourism Week
The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week, May 4 -12, with a series of fun and informative events, including the first Outer Banks Tourism Summit.
On Tuesday, May 7, Tourism Research Assistance Center (TRAC) State Tourism and Commerce representatives will be on site at the Koru Village oceanfront Beach Klub in Avon from 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. with a free community-based training program.
Independent artisans, dining, lodging, retail entrepreneurs, and outdoor, event, and attractions owners and managers from Dare County are encouraged to drop by. There is no charge to attend and no reservation is required.
Tourism Research Assistance Center (TRAC) is designed by the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Division of Tourism to help tourism-related businesses engage more fully with programs offered.
Following TRAC on Tuesday, May 7, the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau will kick-off the first-ever Outer Banks Tourism Summit with a welcome reception. On May 8, the summit gets down to business as industry partners from all over Dare County come together to learn about the latest marketing trends, network with local tourism colleagues, and catch up on the current topics facing the Outer Banks tourism industry.

Friday, May 10, Children at Play Museum and the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau will host a free Family Movie Night at the Outer Banks Event Site in Nags Head. Disney Pixar’s “Brave” will play on a large outdoor screen and concessions are available for purchase. Please feel free to bring low-back chairs or blankets to sit on the ground. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at dusk.
National Travel and Tourism Week is celebrated annually the first full week in May. Travel and Tourism is one of America’s largest industries, generating over $2.0 trillion in economic output, with $855.4 billion spent directly by domestic and international travelers. Travel and Tourism nationwide provides one out of every eight jobs in the United States, according to the 2012 data from U.S. Travel Association.
