The 13th Annual Ocracoke Working Watermen’s Association Oyster Roast/Shrimp Steam Fundraiser will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Ocracoke Seafood Company, Irvin Garrish Highway.

The menu includes, steamed oysters and shrimp, crackers, fried drum and sheepshead, hush puppies and soft drinks. Ticket prices for food will depend on the market price.

Dessert and cider from 3 to 6 p.m. will be held in the Watermen’s exhibit in Community Square.

The seafood company, known locally as “the Fish House,” mounts the oyster roast as a thank-you to the community after the commercial fishing season ends in November.  It reopens in the spring when the waters warm and commercial fishing resumes.

“We appreciate the support for North Carolina seafood,” says Hardy Plyler, who manages the commercial end of the nonprofit business. “We urge all seafood consumers to demand access to wild caught North Carolina seafood.”

Several raffle items will supplement this fundraiser. Tickets are $5 each.

Raffle items include the following:

Vintage Flat Earth pottery fish platter

Antique Limoges (signed) France oyster plate

Charleston Shucker Co. oyster shuckers

Charleston Shucker Co. Carolina fillet knife

Hand-painted commemorative silk oyster scarf by artist Carolyn Gilberti

All winners will be drawn the day of the event and arrangements will be made to get items to the winners, who need not be present to win.
