Santa will visit Chicamacomico on Nov. 28

The traditional Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum end-of-season festivities will take place Friday, Nov. 28.

The site will open at 10 a.m. as usual. Santa will be “holding court” later that day in the Keeper’s Room of the 1911 Station (pictured) from 1 until 3 p.m. There will be staff and volunteers to guide you the right way.

As a benefit to the community, there will be free admission to this event, with one non-perishable item per person for the Hatteras Island Food Bank.  For visitors not prepared with non-perishable items, a donation of $2 per person will also go directly to the Food Bank. This also includes free self-guided tours of the 1911 Life-Saving Station and to the 1911 Cookhouse, or “kitchen,” as the surfmen called it.

At the end of the day is Santa’s drawing for the 2014 season-long raffle. Grand prize is a free full week vacation in a luxurious beach home donated by Midgett Realty.  There are also other significant prizes.

As a benefit to the nonprofit museum, take advantage of the big sale in the Gift Shop, and/or consider giving a generous tax-deductible donation in the spirit of the season. If you really want to be part of the team, ask about a membership. The most generous patrons will donate to our Hurricane Arthur Relief Fund. Patrons giving $100 or more will have their names inscribed on a plaque permanently displayed in the 1911 Life-Saving Station for which they became life-savers themselves.

The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum is one of the many sites on the Historic Albemarle Tour and the National Outer Banks Scenic Byway.  It is located in Rodanthe, the northernmost village of Cape Hatteras Island, oceanside at 23645 NC Highway 12, or MilePost 39.5. It is open Monday through Friday (closed Thanksgiving Day) from 10 until 4 p.m. this week.
