Winter weather – including snow accumulation – is possible for Saturday night and Sunday across eastern North Carolina, according to the 3:00 p.m. Thursday briefing from the National Weather Service office in Morehead City.
Confidence for accumulating snowfall is low due to the large differences in forecast guidance, and north and / or west portions of Duplin, Lenoir, Greene, and Pitt Counties – as well as locations along and north of Highway 64 – have the best chance at receiving measureable snowfall.
With that being said, the area of possible snowfall has shifted slightly farther south, towards the coast, since the last briefing which was issued on Wednesday night.
If the conditions are right, parts of Eastern NC could see a couple inches of snow. Per the 3:00 p.m. forecast map, the northern region of Hatteras Island, (from roughly Avon to Oregon Inlet), may experience possible snow accumulations. The northern Outer Banks including Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk is more likely to see snowfall accumulations from Saturday night into Sunday.
Precipitation should be mostly rain or snow starting late Saturday night, however some icing is also possible. The poor conditions may continue into Sunday evening.
