Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday night and continuing through noon on Sunday, per a Saturday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

Gale-force westerly winds blowing across the Pamlico Sound late Saturday and Sunday morning will result in elevated water levels along Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands with minor coastal flooding expected. Inundation of 1-2 feet above ground level is expected.

A Gale Warning and Wind Advisory are also in effect for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands from Saturday night until Sunday morning as 25-35 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph will cause hazardous seas and potentially dangerous driving conditions. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and travel with caution.
