Per a recent update on DriveNC.org, N.C. Highway 12 is now open again for traffic on Hatteras Island. The highway temporarily closed south of Oregon Inlet on Friday afternoon due to extreme soundside flooding.

Areas of deep standing water remain on the roadway due to Friday’s flooding. Motorists are reminded to use caution traveling N.C. Highway 12, as flooding continues to be reported in multiple spots from Oregon Inlet to north Avon.

Wind gusts of 62 mph were reported in Frisco during the recent cold front, while gusts of 60 mph were recorded in Avon, and gusts of 57 mph were recorded at Oregon Inlet.

Winds peaked on Friday afternoon, and winds and water levels are expected to diminish starting Friday afternoon and evening.
