Lifeline Outreach OBX launches Windows of Opportunity Campaign

Share post:

Lifeline Outreach OBX has launched a new “Windows of Opportunity” campaign to allow community members in the Tri-Villages, (and hopefully beyond), to check on their at-risk friends and neighbors without an in-person visit.

The non-profit organization, which has a home base in Salvo, is inviting friends and neighbors to participate in this new initiative to share love and compassion throughout the local island community.

The group has created signs to be placed in the home windows of islanders who are either quarantined, self-isolating, or simply homebound. These signs will be in three colors, and are effectively color-coded to indicate the following:

GREEN = I am OK

YELLOW = I need help with an errand

RED = EMERGENCY – Need HELP

These signs will be available in the local Post Office serving the tri-villages of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo on Hatteras Island, beginning on Monday.

The lobby of the post office is accessible 24 hours a day, and any islander who may find this initiative useful for themselves or someone they know are welcome to swing by and pick up a pack with the signs at no cost.

“We saw this [concept] on Facebook and thought ‘What a good idea,’” said organizer and Lifeline Outreach OBX administrator Rev. Wade Weigel. “The whole idea for us to do it in the Tri-villages is that it will be the pebble in the middle of a pond, and will ripple outward.”

“If we have the ability, we will print out as many of those kits as we can to make them available for the island – if other churches and organizations would like to reach out to us and participate, we’ll be happy to share with them of course,” he added. “Hopefully, it will ripple out to the community, and outlying communities. I can’t think of a simpler way for neighbors to communicate.”
