The majority of shorebird and sea turtle resource protection areas have been removed, including the area at South Beach; between Ramps 48 and 49; and between Ramps 30 and 32. The resource protection area at Ramp 34 is scheduled to be removed on September 3. Other than a few hours it was closed for the removal of a WWII-era training ordnance found off shore, the Point has remained open for recreational access for 400 consecutive days.
Parking at the Fish Cleaning Station in Buxton has continued to be a problem with vehicles parking in the roadway and narrowing the lane to a single lane. Signs were installed on one side of Lighthouse Road, on the opposite side of the fish cleaning station, beginning at the entrance to Ramp 44 and extending to the entrance to Cape Point Campground indicating “No Parking Between Signs.”
Large waves near the north part of Buxton have drawn large crowds of surfers where Weeks Marine has their beach nourishment equipment staged in a closed work area. If you plan on visiting the area, please remember to walk around the yellow tape and not through the site. The pipeline is secured with cables underwater, which can also be a safety hazard if swimming/surfing in front of the work site.
