Weekly CHNS Update From Ranger Karol Jones

Share post:

Good luck to all of the Hatteras Village Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament entrants on Friday, September 8.

The 40th anniversary of the Mountains To Sea Trail is Saturday, September 9. Superintendent Hallac is planning to hike the Open Ponds Trail starting at 8:00 a.m.  All are welcome to join the Superintendent on the 4.6 mile hike.

All shorebird resource protection areas have been removed. To date, there have been 133 sea turtle nests, 72 inventoried, and 61 active in ground. The last sea turtle nest was laid on September 1. There is an ORV corridor in front of a sea turtle nest west of Ramp 48.

NPS staff are actively monitoring the path of Hurricane Irma. As we prepare for Irma’s potential impacts to the area, we will keep you informed of any operational changes that are necessary to ensure the safety of Seashore visitors and resources.
