Even though the class of 2020 will not be finishing the school year at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School (CHSS), due to a statewide school closure for the remainder of the year, CHSS has found a way to honor its seniors by lighting up the Buxton skies.

Per a recent announcement, every Monday night at 20:20, (or 8:20 p.m.), CHSS will be turning on the lights on the softball, baseball, and soccer fields for 20 minutes and 20 seconds, in honor of graduating seniors, beginning on Monday night, April 27.

Additional plans are also being made to celebrate the upcoming graduation while maintaining social distancing guidelines, per a recent social media announcement, and details will be released in the near future.

“For our graduating seniors and their parents- we have been working for several weeks on possible graduation scenarios and will be receiving teacher input next week,” stated the online update. “Following that, we intend to provide graduating seniors and their parents with a survey on Monday, May 4, where you will have a chance to provide input.”

CHSS’s senior leadership is also working with school principals on addressing the details related to the school closures. Details will be provided this week for all parents, which includes timelines related to remote learning, a review of grading procedures given the new State Board of Education policies, technology devices, picking up personal belongings, and more.
