Buxton Beach Nourishment Update – September 28, 2017

Today, Weeks Construction crew members will begin returning to the job site and if conditions allow, pre-dredging data collection will begin.

On Friday, crews will begin moving equipment to the construction area on the beach during periods of low tide.

The hopper dredge R. N. Weeks is scheduled to arrive over the weekend and the goal is for this dredge to begin pumping sand as soon as all pre-dredging requirements are completed, including 48 hours of non-capture sea turtle trawling and inspection of the dredge in cooperation with the US Army Corps of Engineers. The hopper dredge R.N. Weeks will connect to the landing point located approximately 5,000 feet north of the first landing point, and pumping will proceed south to tie in with the section of beach that was already completed by the cutterhead dredge C.R. McCaskill.

The return date of the cutterhead dredge C.R. McCaskill will be determined once the weather pattern is more defined. Once on site, the McCaskill will resume work at the north end of the village.

All plans are subject to change depending on sea conditions.
