Authorities have confirmed the body that was recovered from the Pamlico Sound off Pea Island last week is that of a resident of Nags Head.

The body was discovered in Davis Channel about one-half mile south of Oregon Inlet around 4:45 a.m. Friday, according to Nags Head Police Chief Kevin Brinkley.

Chicamcomico Banks Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department recovered the remains, with assistance from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. Marine Patrol.

An autopsy was conducted by the state medical examiner in Greenville to determine an exact cause of death, but the report has not been completed. Foul play is not suspected in the case.
