Remains found at Cape Lookout National Seashore on May 31 have been positively identified as a Fort Bragg soldier who went missing during a camping trip over Memorial Day weekend, and Army investigators say his death has been ruled a homicide.
Partial remains that washed ashore at South Core Banks, one of the islands that make up the seashore, were positively identified as 21-year-old Enrique Roman-Martinez through dental records, the Army Criminal Investigation Command said in a news release.
The Army said Roman-Martinez was murdered. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information in the case.
During the search for the missing paratrooper, Cape Lookout National Seashore officials issued a statement in search of anyone who saw a white/silver Jeep Wrangler with two young men standing on the outside step rails while it drove at a high rate of speed south down the beach in connection with Roman-Martinez’ disappearance.
Roman-Martinez was last seen at a campsite near Mile Marker 46 on South Core Banks. His friends reported him missing the evening of Saturday, May 23. His phone and wallet were found at the campsite and he was last seen wearing blue shorts and no shirt.
