A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for the Outer Banks starting Saturday, June 3, at 5 p.m. until Monday, June 5, at 2 a.m., per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.

Increasing northeast winds this weekend, in combination with king tides, will result in a threat for minor to locally moderate coastal flooding across portions of Eastern N.C., from North Topsail Beach to Duck. Oceanside areas will be more vulnerable north of Cape Hatteras, while soundside locations will be more vulnerable south.

1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in a minor threat of property damage. Some roads and low-lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront may experience shallow flooding.

The most likely time for oceanside flooding is around high tide, and the next high tide on Hatteras Island is approximately 7:30 p.m.

Ferry service to Ocracoke may be impacted due to high winds and/or dense fog. To get notified of ferry delays or cancellations, sign up for text and email alerts via the N.C. Ferry System’s new-in-2023 FINS system: www.ncdot.gov/fins. Users will get notified of any schedule changes directly from the terminal, and can unsubscribe at any time.

The public can also see updates on all three Ocracoke Island routes via the Ferry Division’s Twitter accounts at https://twitter.com/NCFerryHatteras/ and https://twitter.com/ncferrypamsound/, or by calling 252-996-6000 for more information.
