Cape Hatteras National Seashore Superintendent David Hallac has invited the public to come to a meeting and ask questions or discuss the upcoming summer season, management practices, and the ongoing issues with stormwater and flooding in the Cape Point area — or anything else on the minds of islanders or visitors.
The event is scheduled for Monday, May 2, from 5 until 6:30 p.m. in Room 307 at Cape Hatteras Secondary School on Highway 12 in Buxton.
“I have a lot of opportunities to meet with stakeholder groups or to speak at public meetings,” Hallac said. But, he adds that he has had on his mind for some time scheduling a “listening” session, if you will, where folks can come in, sit down with him and his staff and just ask questions at an informal setting.
“This is for people who don’t want to call me or to come to Manteo and see me,” he added.
The flooding in the Cape Point area over the fall and winter after record rainfall is not the only reason for scheduling the session, but Hallac and other staff members will follow up on their discussions with the N.C. Division of Environmental Quality about a plan for draining the stormwater.
