Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh, and Wright Brothers Memorial announce visitor facility closures ahead of winter storm

Ahead of an impending winter storm, National Park Service visitor facilities at Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore), Fort Raleigh National Historic Site (Fort Raleigh) and Wright Brothers National Memorial will close at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 and remain closed Wednesday, Jan. 22. Outdoor areas at the Seashore and Fort Raleigh will remain open.

As of this morning, the National Weather Service’s Newport/Morehead City Weather Forecast Office expected blowing and drifting snow with possible blizzard conditions to impact the area this evening through early Wednesday, Jan. 22. The National Weather Service also noted dangerously cold wind chills through Thursday morning. Fort Raleigh currently plans to proceed with its shoreline erosion public meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.
