A $7,500 gift from the Dare Education Foundation will allow every school in Dare County an opportunity to show appreciation for their teachers.

Just in time for Christmas, each school site in the district received gifts based on their teacher headcount, with the expectation that the money honors and celebrates our educators, perhaps with a socially-distanced luncheon or an item that teachers at a school have craved for a long time.

DEF’s Board of Directors, composed of alumni, former faculty members, administrators, and community members, understands the difficulties our educators are facing.

Board member and retired teacher, Jessica Loose, proposed that DEF find a way to lift the spirits of teachers:

“I’m elated that DEF was able to gift each school some ‘mad money’ to celebrate their teachers. They are being asked to do more and more in these demanding times and deserve whatever we can send their way. Every little bit helps!”

The Dare Education Foundation was established in 2002 by a group of committed community organizers and has grown into a significant organization that supports the students, teachers, and schools in Dare County by funding innovative learning opportunities.

DEF works together with Dare County Schools to provide grants to schools and classrooms, funding for teacher professional development, college scholarships, and affordable teacher housing. Learn more at dareeducationfoundation.org
