On Saturday March 2, the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association (RWSCA) will host its annual celebration of reading and literacy from 10-11:30 am at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building.
Nearly 20 years ago, the association began hosting an annual “Dr. Seuss Birthday Party” as part of Read Across America.
April Contestable, who helped organize the first party, is back this year, eager to expand the program. “Our RWS Civic Association originally started this event to get books in the hands of kids, but we hope to see folks of all ages come out for the event.”
Promoting reading across every age and interest, the event highlights reading as fun and important to an engaged community.
A book swap is also being added this year. “We are also asking you to bring books you’d like to pass along for any age group to exchange with others. All books left after the event will help to fill our Little Libraries in the Tri-villages,” adds Contestable.
Activities include:
· Kid-friendly games and crafts
· Free gently used books for children
· Book swap for all ages
· Pop-Up Library for the entire community, courtesy of Michelle Lord, Branch Manager at the Hatteras Library.
Contestable invites everyone to join the celebration. “Come check out a book from the Dare County pop-up library, socialize with your neighbors, and have some refreshments.”
The event is held at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building located at 23646 NC Hwy 12 in Rodanthe. Check out our webpage https://www.rwscivicassociation.org or check our Facebook page for more details.
