16th Annual HICF 5K and Fun Run is coming October 12
The annual Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation 5K and 1 mile Fun Run is just around the corner, and it’s a fine opportunity for walkers and runners of all ages to enjoy a fun event that generates donations for a great cause.
Celebrating its 16th year in 2019, the 5K course follows winding, flat roads in the heart of Kinnakeet Shores, and the annual event always garners plenty of participants year after year. In 2018, the event raised $9,600 for the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation (HICF), and attracted a pink-infused crowd that walked, biked, or ran through the quiet neighborhood before returning to the finish line.
This year’s race will be held on Saturday, October 12, with the 5K and the 1-mile Fun Run launching at 8 a.m.
Registration is currently open for the event, and the entry fee includes an event T-shirt, a finisher medal, and a post-race celebration with Barry-oke and donuts by Duck Donuts. Participants are encouraged to come decked out in pink, as there are also annual prizes for the most colorful attendees.
The entry fee is $30 before October 10 and $35 after October 10, and folks can register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/?raceId=36599&eventId=311738.
Preregistered participants can pick up their T-shirts at Duck Donuts from 4. p.m. to 6 p.m. on October 11.
All proceeds go to benefit the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, which is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that provides support for cancer patients and their families who live on Hatteras Island.
