Coastal inspired exhibits to open at Dare Arts In July

Abstract paintings, surf photography, fractal wood-burned pieces, and resin sculptures can be found in two new exhibitions that will open at Dare Arts Gallery in downtown Manteo on Friday, July 7 at 6 p.m.

The Vault Gallery will showcase original paintings by Richmond, VA artist Robert WINNE in his solo exhibit Carolina by the Sea: A Collection of Beachscapes Inspired by the Coastline of North Carolina.

“As an artist whose inspiration for this exhibit comes primarily from my frequent fishing excursions to Hatteras Island over the past 45+ years, having an exhibition of my paintings at Dare Arts is amazing and very special,” said artist Robert WINNE. “These paintings represent my attraction to the North Carolina coastline. Very often it’s not what I paint, but what I don’t paint that allows the viewer to complete the image in their mind. I think it’s important for the viewer to be able to interpret what they see and feel from each painting. Everyone needs at least one abstract painting in their home, so come on out and catch Carolina by the Sea!”

Tying together love for the ocean, their home, and their community, Outer Banks artists Daniel Pullen, Noah Snyder, and Mike Rowe will debut a range of media in their exhibition titled Here Come The Surfmen, which will be on display in the Courtroom Gallery.

“I have been working on Hatteras Island water culture photo collages for the show,” said photographer Daniel Pullen. “There are six different themes- Stuck.?, Party Wave, First Jetty, Cape Point, Frisco Pier, and Parking Lots. Each one of them consists of up to 20 photographs that are rearranged to make a new image.”

Noah Snyder’s work is a juxtaposition of fractal wood-burning and acrylic paint.

“I am planning on exhibiting some pretty crazy pieces in this show,” said artist Noah Snyder. “The thing I love about my medium is that it always brings the collision of rustic texture with the calm, peace and fluidity of painting.”

Surfboard shaper Mike Rowe creates resin sculptures from the waste of glassing surfboards. Rowe will be exhibiting resin waves, dancers, moons, shore birds, and bowls in this show.

Visitors will be able to meet all four of the artists at the opening receptions, which are free and open to everyone, and during First Friday in downtown Manteo.

Both exhibitions are open for viewing during Dare Arts’ normal gallery hours through Saturday, July 29.
