Travel+Leisure magazine has released its international list of the “15 Best Places to Travel in July,” and includes the Outer Banks among some very elite company.

Using their own research and experience, along with suggestions from local experts, they rounded up the best places to travel this July in the United States and around the world, according to T+L’s Patricia Doherty.

“Whether you want to be part of the crowd in Paris or prefer an out-of-the-way destination, we’ve got you covered,” Doherty writes.

When describing what visitors to the Outer Banks will find, Doherty includes “(b)eaches, state parks, lighthouses, museums, and historical sites provide plenty to see, and visitors can go fishing, kitesurfing, diving, boating, and hiking.”

“The 46th Annual Wright Kite Festival is set for July 19-20, with 30- to 100-foot kites flying and on display. Guests can fly their own kites, take kite flying lessons, or visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial, where there’s a kite-making station for kids. As you might expect, seafood is a highlight of an OBX vacation, but remember to try some famous North Carolina barbecue, too. Breweries, distilleries, and wine-tasting rooms can be found on the OBX Beer, Wine, & Spirits Trail.”

July is also highlighted by annual Fourth of July parades and celebrations in Duck, downtown Manteo and Hatteras village, plus fireworks shows along the beach in Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Avon, and over Shallowbag Bay in Manteo.
