AVON– Oscar Dwight Gray Sr., 90, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at The OuterBanks Hospital. Born in Avon, he was the son of the late Clemson andEsta Meekins Gray. He was a retired Chief Machinist Mate for the U.S.Coast Guard and a member of Cape Hatteras Lodge No. 698 AF and AM inBuxton.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, Jannette Gray Grayof the residence; a daughter, Diana G. Saunders of Chesapeake, Va.;three sons, Oscar D. Gray, Jr. of Whitsett, N.C., Daniel Bruce Gray ofSouth Mills, N.C., and Tilman Ray Gray of Avon; two sisters, BlancheWilliams of Beaufort, N.C. and Rena Dawson of Richmond, Va.; eightgrandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service willbe held at the Avon Worship Center on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. withPastor Bryan Gray officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery.The family will receive friends and relatives at the church on Fridayfrom 6 until 7 p.m. In lieu flowers, memorial donations may be made tothe Avon Worship Center Youth Group.
