CHAPELHILL — Anna Katherine Watson Blair died peacefully on Friday March 22,2013, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was at her homesurrounded by her family. Anna was the beloved daughter of HarveyLangill Watson and Elizabeth Martin Watson and was born on Nov. 7, 1958in Kinston, N.C.
Anna attended Durham High School, where shewas valedictorian in 1977. She was a James M. Johnston Scholar at theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with anursing degree in 1981. She was a registered nurse for more than 30years and served with steadfast dedication on pediatric units, infamily practice centers, and in rheumatology clinics at Pitt MemorialHospital, Hatteras Medical Center, and UNC Hospitals.
Sheis survived by three children, Anna Elizabeth Blair, Katherine BlakeneyBlair, James Seaborn Blair IV, and their father, James Seaborn BlairIII. Anna is survived by sister Amy Watson Brice�o; brother HarveyLangill Watson Jr. and his wife Ginger Love Watson; brother ArthurDavid Watson and his wife Jane Goellner Watson; five nieces, VirginiaBlair Watson, Katherine Elizabeth Watson, Koehler Amalia Brice�o, SaraKiley Watson, and Kathryn Langill Watson; and two nephews, James HarveyWatson and Cristopher Alexander Brice�o.
Anna’s mosttreasured role was being a mother to her three children. She was aspirited and avid soccer mom, Boy Scout mom, and Girl Scout mom. Herhappiest times were with her family at their cottage on the sandy banksof the Neuse River and being a camper, counselor, and staff nurse atCamp Don Lee; one of her favorite sessions was Camp Rainbow that servedchildren with cancer. She was a vibrant member of many United MethodistChurches throughout her life, particularly Hatteras United Methodistand University United Methodist in Chapel Hill. Anna had a deeplyingrained love of music that she shared for many years in children’smusic ministry. In addition to being a devoted Tarheel, Anna loveddancing, cooking, bridge, reading, sailing, and simply being by thewater.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude toall of the caregivers from the Tisch Brain Tumor Center, Duke Hospice,Cornucopia House, and Anna’s village of friends for their dedicationand care to Anna during this incredibly challenging period in her life.
Afuneral service will be held at University United Methodist Church, 150East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC, on Easter Monday, April 1 at 11a.m.
The family will receive visitors after the service.
