FRISCO– Marvin Walter Bernstel (Lucky) of Frisco and formerly of Wall, N.J.,died Dec. 13, 2014 in Chesapeake, Va. He was born Sept. 16, 1924in Pottsville, Pa. He was the son of Ida Bernstel. He waspredeceased by his wife, Olga, in 2001 and his twin brother, Melvin, in2010.
He is survived by 10 children: Valerie Cherie Bray(George), Deborah Edwards, and Daniel Bernstel, all of Neptune,N.J.; Marvin (Tip) Bernstel, Jackson, N.J.; Karl Bernstel andTimothy Bernstel of Belmar, N.J.; Suzanne Demalik (Joe), Ocean,N.J.; Steven Bernstel (Deb), Forked River, N.J.; Teresa Irons (Tom),Virginia Beach, Va., and David Bernstel, Miami, Fla. Hisgrandchildren are Patricia Adams, Christopher and Tippi Marie Bernstel,Paul and Brian Edwards, Kevin and Diana Irons, Nikkole Donnelly,Matthew and Jennifer Demalik. Marvin was predeceased bygrandchildren Kristen Bray, Andrew Bernstel and JohnDemalik. Great-grandchildren are Elyse and Grace Adams, Crystaland Christopher Bernstel, Joey Edwards, Alexa, Keira and RobertDonnelly, Brody Irons, Lukas and Soleil Irons.
Lucky wasa World War II Marine Corps veteran, having served in the AsiaticPacific, including Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands (1942-45). He retired after 37 years of service at NAD Earle, ColtsNeck, N.J., and moved to Cape Hatteras, where he enjoyed many wonderfulyears pursuing his lifelong passion, surf fishing. He was afounding member of Holy Innocents Church in Neptune, N.J., and pastmember of the Button Buck Club in Neptune. He also was an activemember of the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club, judging manytournaments.
His memory will be cherished by his largefamily. Friends will remember Lucky as a rugged andfiercely independent individual. He lived life fullyin tune with his quip, “life is sweet.” A funeral mass will beheld at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, at Holy InnocentsChurch, Route 33, Neptune.
