HATTERAS — Alvin Irvin Porter, 69, of Hatteras, NC died Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Alvin was preceded indeath by his beloved wife, Rose; his parents, William and EunicePorter; his brother, Jack Porter; and sisters, Janice Blevins andVanessa Hinkley.
He is survived by adaughter, Cathy Porter; a step-daughter, Angel Billhimer; a step-son,Ronald Billhimer Jr.; sisters, Navata Brinks, Janet Gardner, and AnnieGrimm; step-grandchildren, Jacqueline Sullivan (Robert), Julie Clark,and Jasmine Roller; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was a decoratedVietnam War Veteran and was receiving disability from the V.A. afterbeing diagnosed with heart disease due to Agent Orange.
Alvin was a retiredtruck driver with Reliable Contracting. In recent years, he could befound at Ballance Oil Company where he would delight in helping andtalking with everyone.
He was a member of the Hatteras Volunteer Fire Department where he also worked the Cook Shack for the weekly fish fry dinners.
Alvin loved to fishespecially from the boat, squealing his tires and blowing his air horn.He also dearly loved living in Hatteras Village.
There will be a MemorialCelebration of Alvin’s life at 4:00 pm on March 24, 2018, at HatterasUnited Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Toni Wood. In lieu offlowers, donations can be made to the Hatteras Volunteer FireDepartment at P.O. Box 251, Hatteras NC, 27943.
