February 1, 1927- January 22, 2018
FRISCO — Peggy Louise (Gowen) Martin, age 90, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 due to complications of the flu.
Peggy was born February1, 1927 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Ira Lennis Gowen and Pearl MaeJenkins Gowen. She married her true love, Wash Martin, on February 16,1956.
Peggy loved music andshe loved to dance. In her younger years she loved to jitterbug, do theCharleston, swing, and square dance, among others. In later years, shewould start moving her feet anytime music played.
Peggy was hard-workingand kind. She called the kitchen her “office,” and in her younger yearswas always whipping up excellent meals for her family. She loved andserved her family well and prayed for her children. She defended herkids like a mama bear.
Her talents were many. She painted with oils and sewed many clothes for her kids. She wasproud of her “Scotch blood” and her ability to stretch a dollar. Shewas industrious, cleaning houses on the weekends and putting her payaway for a “rainy day” or to help out one of her kids. She called ither “hidey-spot money.”
Peggy loved Jesus withall of her heart. And she loved wisdom. She encouraged her children toseek wisdom and to read one Proverb every day. Peggy was a shiningexample of the Proverbs 31 woman and she reflected the light of Jesusto those around her.
Peggy would look andfind God‘s favor to her in things big and small. If a stranger openedthe door for her or showed her respect she saw it as the favor of God.And she showed God’s grace to those around her, giving the best hugs toeveryone, being loving and welcoming to those she knew and those shedidn’t. Peggy knew how to make people feel special. But watch out! Herbear-hugs could break a rib!
In the days to come, herfamily will be left with a big void. Those left behind include herhusband, Wash Martin, daughter Lynda Doggett, daughter Kelly (Joey)Brunson, son Douglas (Kimberly) Martin, son Wiley Martin, and daughterEileen (David) Botello.
