BUXTON — Alan Farkas, a devoted father, grandfather, and talented artist, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Buxton, NC, at the age of 81. Born on February 22, 1943, in New Brunswick, NJ, Alan led a life that was marked by service, creativity, and deep love for his family.
Alan served his country honorably in the United States Navy, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to duty and honor. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to the North Carolina Department of Transportation – Ferry Division, where he retired as a chief engineer. His work helped ensure the safe passage of countless travelers across North Carolina’s waterways.
Beyond his professional life, Alan was an artist in many ways. He expressed his creativity through painting, wood carving, sculpting, and music, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and inspiration in every piece he created. His artistic talents brought joy not only to himself but also to those fortunate enough to witness his work.
Being an avid outdoorsman, Alan’s love for hunting, treasuring hunting, and spending time on the water provided him with inspiration and a profound connection to nature. He cherished including his family in all of his activities, creating valuable experiences and memories for all.
Alan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Jean Gray Farkas; his parents, Margaret Toth Farkas and Lewis Farkas; and his sister, Peggy Beisser.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Irma Vale Hostetter, and son, Alan Matthew Farkas. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Daryl Montra Hostetter and Sierra Vale Hostetter, and great-grandchildren, Christopher Michael Bruner and Baylah Jean Lovino, who will carry forward his spirit and values.
Alan is also survived by his sister, Nancy Mudrey, and brother, Julius Farkas, who will remember him fondly for his warmth, humor, and artistic spirit.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Lighthouse Assembly of God, Buxton, NC.
Alan Farkas will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, creativity, and dedication will continue to inspire his family and friends for generations to come.
