MANTEO — Connie Mae Burton Selby, 81, of Manteo, NC died at her home on May 30, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Milton Selby and the daughter of the late Cora Mae McClease Burton of Manteo and Daniel Burton of Currituck, NC.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel Burton, Jr., Alfred Burton, and Wilbur Burton; her eldest sister, Lovey B. Moore; and two stepchildren, Jerome Selby (Barbara) and Trina Selby.
Connie Mae Burton Selby is survived by her sisters, Mabel Porter, Ethel Bowser, Gloria Burton, Aquilla Bryant (Matthew), and Priscilla Hardy (Al).
Also left to mourn her loss is her five children, Constance Payne (Curtis), Alvin Selby (Joann), Daniel Selby, Julius Selby (Diane), and Lovey Selby; two stepchildren, Azealea Mackey and Wendell Moore (Cecelia); thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends are left to mourn the loss.
Connie Mae Burton Selby attended and graduated from what is now known as the Roanoke Island Head Start in Manteo, NC. She was an active member of Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church even while ill and attended regularly when able.
She was also a volunteer for various programs here in Dare County, such as Meals on Wheels and the Roanoke Island Head Start during the early years.
There will be an intimate graveside service held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 2:00 pm. It will be held at Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Fellowship will follow at the Roanoke Island Head Start Building. Due to COVID-19, please wear a mask
