August 1, 1977 – March 15, 2025
KILL DEVIL HILLS — Crystal Gayle “Chrissy” Cooper, 47, of 804 Suffolk Street, Kill Devil Hills, NC, went to her heavenly rest Saturday, March 15, 2025, at her home unexpectedly, one day after the passing of her beloved aunt Marsha Brown. She was born in Elizabeth City on August 1, 1977, the youngest of four children.
Crystal was a loving person with a kind and generous heart. She never met a stranger, and if she knew someone was in need, she never hesitated to go to their aid. She had a smile for everyone and tried to find something good in every situation. Her closest friends said she had the “purest soul.” A lifelong resident of Dare County, she loved the beach and, above all else, the Lord. Her faith was strong. She found comfort in reading Scripture.
She said her greatest accomplishment was her son. She was so proud of the fine young man he’s become and looked forward to seeing grandchildren in the future she could spoil.
Chrissy’s faithful companion was a smoke-colored cat named Buster, who she found as a kitten. At the least bit of encouragement, she would share with you all the awesomeness of her fur baby.
Crystal was a master painter and certified pool and spa tech. She took tremendous pride in her work always going above and beyond to ensure quality.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Cooper Jr.; her aunt and uncle, Marsha and William S “Billy” Brown; uncles, Marvin F “Mickey” Mann Jr and Edward B Mann.
Crystal is survived by her mother, Donna Farrel Rich, and stepfather Randey Rich; her son, Austin Cooper (Priscilla) of Williamston, NC; two brothers, Stephen Cooper (Janie) of Poquoson, VA and Kenneth Cooper of Williamston, NC; a sister Denise Cooper (Samuel), a niece Kayla Mesbergen (Andrew) and two grandnieces Dahlia and Willow Mesbergen all of Pensacola, FL; cousins Bonnie Brown Rowe (John) and Jeffrey (Kaitlin); William S “Bill” Brown III, Kristian Brown, Ben Brown (Camille), Elizabeth BayBay Brown and Buster, the cat.
Crystal’s wings were ready, but our hearts were not. A celebration of life will be held later this spring on the beach she loved so well for family and friends to say goodbye to our girl. Memorial donations maybe made to the Billy Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Outer Banks VFW Post 10950 (obxvfw@gmail.com).
