KITTY HAWK — Doris was born on Tuesday, January 15, 1929, in Kitty Hawk, NC, to the late Leon Hardy Perry and Eva O’Neal Perry, both of Kitty Hawk. She went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 25, 2025, just as she wanted, at her home in Kitty Hawk with her son by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David “Paul” Pruitt Jr., her son, David Leon Pruitt, her brother, Norman Lee Perry, sister, Leola Perry Toler, and sister, Reda Perry Midgett.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff Pruitt (Bo) and Mike Pruitt (Antoinette), and daughter-in-law, Beckye Pruitt. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Paul Pruitt (Dolly), Callie Pruitt, Hannah Cresimore (Kevin), Jeremy Pruitt (Sarah), Perry Pruitt and Taylor Pruitt (Dakota) ; eight great-grandchildren: David Pruitt (Lexus), Sean Pruitt, Emma Pruitt (Joshua), Hudson Cresimore, Jackson Cresimore, Logan Cresimore, Olivia Pruitt and River Payne; and two great-great-grandchildren: Adeline Pruitt and Elizabeth Pruitt. She leaves behind sister-in-law Melba Scarborough Perry as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doris was a member of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, where she was married in 1946. After returning home to Kitty Hawk in 1968, following the retirement from her husband’s military career, Doris worked on the Outer Banks in both retail and for the Town of Kitty Hawk; however, her love was always to provide a home and refuge for her family.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Rev. Kenny Midgett will be officiating. Viewing will begin at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends and relatives in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Private burial will take place at Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk.
