KILL DEVIL HILLS – Glynn Henderson Powell, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, in Portsmouth, VA, at the age of 91. Born on January 7, 1934, in Danville, VA, Glynn led a life full of love, devotion, and service to others.
A proud graduate of Gramby High School, Glynn pursued her passion for caring for others by attending the LPN School of Nursing, where she graduated at the top of her class. Her dedication to her family was unparalleled as she lovingly raised four phenomenal children alongside her late husband, Harley R. Powell.
Glynn was a devout member of Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, where she found joy in singing in the choir and serving her community. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond the church walls, as she volunteered tirelessly as an election poll worker and at Ruthie’s Kitchen. She treasured the friendships made within her card-playing group, which brought her much happiness over the years.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Harley R. Powell, and her parents, Roy and Alicia Henderson, Glynn leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. Her memory will be forever cherished by her daughter, Sharon Stevens (Cory) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and her three sons: George Powell (Jan) of Bremerton, WA; David Powell (Charlene) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Scott Powell (Theresa) of Kill Devil Hills, NC. Glynn was a beloved grandmother to five grandchildren—Ashley Stevens, Julie Powell, Cody Powell, Zachary Powell, and Harlie Powell—and a doting great-grandmother to Tyler Klinefelter, Matthew Salas, Ashlyn Salas, Bryson Powell, Easton Powell, Augustus Powell, and Amelia Powell.
In accordance with Glynn’s wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her name to the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, reflecting her lifelong dedication to faith and community.
