NAGS HEAD — Laura Gilbert Tupper will be celebrating her 101st birthday in heaven! Lolly, as everyone knew her, passed away peacefully at Peak Resources in Nags Head, NC, on Saturday, August 21, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Robert R. Tupper and the daughter of Stanley and Laura Gilbert.
Born in Utica, NY, on November 14, 1920, Lolly was naturally gregarious and fun-loving. She created a life that was filled with family, travel, work, and volunteering. She had a passion for animals, especially dogs, that was evident throughout her life. Gardening was another passion of Lolly’s.
Lolly’s love for the Outer Banks began in the 1960s when the family purchased a vacation cottage in Southern Shores. The family-owned and operated the Croatan Inn in Kill Devil Hills from 1969 through 1974. In 2006, Lolly made a final move from upstate New York to the Outer Banks to be closer to family.
In her mid-eighties, still wishing to make a difference, Lolly began volunteering at the Elizabethan Gardens. Her time there was a joy that lasted until just a few years ago. Lolly’s peers at the Gardens no doubt remember her homemade brownies! On the very special occasion of her 100th birthday, Lolly’s many friends and family members from near and far wished her a joyful and memorable celebration.
Lolly is survived by her three sons, Robert Tupper (Ellie) of Bethesda, Maryland; Richard “Rick” Tupper (Didi) of Nags Head, NC; and Tom Tupper, also of Maryland. She leaves three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren to reflect on her remarkable life. The Tuppers’ plans for memorial services and interment at Hamilton College, Clinton, NY, are pending at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Elizabethan Gardens, 1411 National Park Drive, Manteo, NC 27954, noting Mrs. Tupper’s name in the memo line. Expressions of sympathy and comfort are welcome via the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc., was entrusted with arrangements.
