MANTEO — Lonnie Howard, 63, of Manteo, NC died Sunday, March 14, 2021, at his home.
Born in Hyde County on October 13, 1957, he was the son of the late Elvira Howard Cooper and Simon Lee Cooper.
Baptist by faith, Lonnie worked for the Town of Manteo and retired from Owens’ Restaurant after many years as their landscaper. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he enjoyed shooting pool and was a local cornhole champion.
Lonnie is survived by his three daughters, Tahira Johnson, Kanisha Howard, and Symaria Howard; longtime best friend, Vanessa Mullen; and six grandchildren, Monterra Gibbs, Christopher Johnson, Nevaeh Johnson, Antigone Johnson, Ray Johnson, and Simon Daniels. Also, surviving are his siblings, Bertha H. Spencer, Frank Howard, Richard Howard, Jimmy Earl Howard, Tanya Shelton, Aquilla Whitfield, Nadine Whitfield, Roderick Whitfield, and Tracy Spencer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lionel Howard.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Mt. Pilgrim Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, 33469 US Hwy 264, Engelhard, NC 27824 with a graveside committal to immediately follow at the Brown Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives for a viewing and visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Twiford Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh Street, Manteo, NC 27954.
