KILL DEVIL HILLS — Mary Droney Skattie joined her beloved God in heaven on April 22, 2021. At the age of 100, she was the last of the five Droney girls to pass, joining Elizabeth, Barbara, Helen, and Dorothy. She was born to Viola and Francis Droney in Milford, MA where she grew up.
Mary moved to Washington, DC and married Richard Skattie in 1951. She retired from Acacia Insurance Company, but her favorite job was as one of Senator Saltonstall’s secretaries on Capitol Hill. Her Irish heritage was very important to her and she was happy to have visited there. A parishioner of Holy Redeemer By-the-Sea Catholic Church, Mary’s strong Catholic faith was present in her everyday life.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Skattie; grandchildren, Tiffany, Avery, and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Chase, Trey, Brennyn, Ayzlin, and Layla; and great-great-grandchild, Jackson.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Holy Redeemer By-the-Sea Catholic Church by Rev. Dr. William F. Walsh, osfs.
