FRISCO — Medford Lynden Austin, born on November 28, 1939, in Hatteras, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, in Frisco, North Carolina, at the age of 85.
Medford led a life dedicated to service and hard work. He served his country honorably for two years in the United States Coast Guard before continuing his commitment to duty by joining the United States Army. From 1962 to 1965, he was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division, where he earned the Combat Badge for his service. Following his military career, Medford embarked on a lifelong journey as a merchant marine in the international ocean transport industry.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eula Chavis Austin; his parents, Lovie Styron Austin and Edward Austin; his children, Medford Jerome Austin, Larry Carter, and Jean Moreno; and his siblings, Rena Tolson and Edward A. Austin.
Medford is survived by his loving children, Robert Austin and his wife Shannon, and Frances Pope and her husband Terry. He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Ryan, Nicole, and Shawn, as well as two great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Styron-Austin Cemetery in Frisco, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Medford’s life and legacy.
Medford’s dedication to his family, his country, and his work will be long remembered by all who knew him.
