WANCHESE — Richard Michael Peabody, 69, of Wanchese, NC, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Wanchese, the place where he loved and called home for 40 years. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio. Richard was a well-known, skilled, certified welder before his retirement. He was a true jack of all trades and a loyal friend to many. Richard had a knack for fixing just about anything and was always lending a helpful hand.
He was a passionate Ohio State football fan, a devoted follower of NASCAR, and had a lifetime love of motorcycles, but above all, nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandsons play the sports they loved.
Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years, Mickey Peabody; stepson Bo Rhodes (Karyl); grandsons Wes and Colin; his sister Beverly Dukes (Tony); stepsisters Cindy Garlock (Moe) and Karen Gingery (Art); cousins Carla Lind, Randy Deehr (Julie), Butch Eppler (Cindy), Linda Kaster (Dave); nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Peabody and Louise O’Donnell Peabody; stepfather Dale Mingus; and his brothers David and James Peabody.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. To honor his memory, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
