Robert Dale Shafer

KILL DEVIL HILLS — Robert Dale Shafer, 63, passed away July 24, 2024. Rob graduated from Yorktown high school in Yorktown, Indiana in 1979 where he was a star kicker on the football team! After high school, Rob enlisted into the Air Force. He attended basic military training and the security police academy at Lackland AFB Texas. His first assignment was Hurlburt Field Florida and was then deployed to Europe at RAF Alconbury England during the Cold War. For Rob’s final assignment, he returned to the US at Kirtland AFB New Mexico. Rob left the Air Force as a security police Sergeant after serving over five years.

Rob’s favorite hobby was music. He has over 1300 CDs in his collection, and several vinyl albums. He saw all of his favorite bands in concert throughout his lifetime!

Rob is survived by his wife, Loralei; three stepchildren, Shannon Saepharn (Chai), Kelly and Colleen McCarty; brother, Rick Shafer (Mary); and sister, Vicky Burrey (Roger). He is also survived by three nephews, their wives and children; one niece, her children; and several cousins and second cousins.

Rob was a kind, thoughtful, and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed and remembered by many people whose lives he has touched over the years.
