Steven A. Boring

KILL DEVIL HILLS – Steven “Steve” Andrew Boring,72, passed away in his sleep on February 18, 2024 at his home in Kill Devil Hills. He is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Diane Doss Boring, his 3 daughters; Shelly Brown (Tim), Joanna Minnick (Paul) and Katie Boring, his 5 grandchildren Connor, Emma, Lauren, Katie and Zach as well as his siblings Richard “Dick” Boring, Patricia Moore and Betsy Scott. He is predeceased by his father George R. Boring, Jr, his mother Anne Gertrude Boring (nee Tetreault) and his sister Marsha Kyle.

Steve spent his life learning how things worked, taking them apart then putting them back together. In adulthood he made a career of it by becoming a Mechanical Engineer. After working for others for a number of years he started his own business, Mechatronic Solutions, in 1994. It is from Mechatronic Solutions that he retired in 2011 when he moved from Odenton, Maryland to retire here in Kill Devil Hills.

Steve enjoyed spending time on his boat whether it be cruising around the canals, speeding through the sound or catching up with his friends on the sand bar. He made fast friends with other patrons of the old Colington Pizza and enjoyed having lunch at the Black Pelican. To fulfill his childhood dream of working at a hardware store, Steve got a part time job at Ace Hardware in Kitty Hawk just so he could be in the environment he enjoyed. In the water and weather of the Outer Banks is where he found contentment.

Steve was a two-time cancer survivor who showed his friends and family what the true meaning of resiliency is. Since his first diagnosis in 2017 and through the countless surgeries and chemo treatments he never stopped living the life he worked so hard for. He fought harder than anyone ever expected and longer than anyone could believe. While doing so, he never complained. Not even once.

His family and friends will miss him immensely. We will think of him whenever the weather is sunny and 90*, when we see a Pabst beer, when the Baltimore Ravens play, and when we hear the music of Fleetwood Mac or The Moody Blues. He left an indelible mark on everyone he knew and we are thankful for the time we had with him.
