Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Door Vandalized

Share post:

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was recently vandalized, per an announcement from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. An individual or individuals etched the letters “SEF” on the original bronze door that opens up to the 1870 lighthouse, and the National Seashore requests that anyone with information on the vandalism contact them as soon as possible.

“Many residents of Hatteras Island have served as lighthouse keepers in the 1800s and 1900s, taking care of the this iconic structure and helping to protect mariners off the coast,” stated Superintendent David Hallac. “It is important that we treat the lighthouse with respect to honor the structure itself and the legacy of those that served in it.”

Anyone with info on the vandalism can reach out to the National Seashore via social media at https://www.facebook.com/CapeHatterasNS/, by phone at (252) 473-2111, or by stopping by the Visitors Center adjacent to the lighthouse.
