Weekly CHNS Update From Ranger Karol Jones

Share post:

The beach access route to Cape Point remains open and the Bypass Road reopened last week. Lots of people continue to enjoy the Point and the nearby sandbar. If you are planning a trip to beach access ramp 44, please park off the roadway if walking from the fish cleaning station area to allow full road width for those driving in the area and please do not park on ramp 44 in the roadway.

As the shorebird breeding season winds down, some of the resource protection areas within the Hatteras Island district are being removed within the next couple weeks, including South Beach. Two sea turtle nest protection areas are located between beach access ramps 48 and 49, and between ramps 30 and 32. Please be aware of the signs as you approach these sea turtle nests as no driving is permitted through the protection areas.

The weather forecasts for this weekend are showing strong winds and significant swells. Be safe.
